News about Current DMTA Players on the tournament scene!

Players on Tournament Break!!

As the Holiday season is quickly upon us and the tournament season is now in a standby pattern similar to the flight pattern at Hartsfield, several players played last weekend and continued to move up the ranking ladder. Matt Bullock and Andy Combs played in the Epicenter tournament in Duluth and both players gave a maximum effort which resulted in a finalist and championship trophy!! Andy won his semifinal round on Saturday, but not before spraining his ankle on his way to the finals. After having a break for 3 hours in between matches his ankle was too tight and Andy gave it his all, but went down in defeat 6-0,6-1. A huge effort from Andy just to get back on the court with his ankle still tight. Matt on the other hand had a tough quarterfinal and then backed it up with another solid semifinal win against a tough opponent. Matt then got proper hydration and ice treatments in the evening and rebounded to complete the tournament win on Sunday afternoon with a 6-3,6-3 victory!! It’s great to see most of the academy out playing tournaments and moving up the ranking ladder!! The tournament updates will be a bit slower until January when we’ll crank it up again, so stay tuned!!! Make sure to check out the Academy Members page to see the latest rankings of our current players!!!

Bullock & Combs Play Solid!!

Heading into the tournament Christmas break, Matt Bullock and Andy Combs entered the Epicenter tournament in Duluth with the idea of continuing their work on solid play and moving forward when the chances occur. Matt played a solid match in the quarterfinals and then continued to move forward in the semifinals, winning both matches 6-3,6-3. In the finals he continued applying pressure and won the level 5 tournament 6-2,7-5! Andy, seeded # 2, played a solid first set in the semifinals. The second set was a little bit tighter, but Andy finally won the match 6-0,6-4.  Having to come back 3 hours later proved to be a tough task for Andy as he lost in the finals 6-1,6-0 to the #1 seed. Both players showed a willingness to continue to expand their games even when things are in control. This being able to improve will serve all the DMTA players in 2012!!!

DMTA Playing hard!!!

As the tournament season heads into a Christmas break several players are still giving their all as the break commences after this weekend. Tay’lor Champion went on Thanksgiving break but actually took the week and made it to the Semifinals in the Charleston Thanksgiving Classic. Tay’lor played solid tennis from the start to the finish which is evident by her results! This weekend Matt Bullock and Any Combs are playing at the Epicenter in Duluth and Ryan Cameron is playing in the doubles tournament in Alpharetta. Hopefully all players will continue working on their solid game and reducing their unforced errors.
Good luck to all.

Players In Action!

Several DMTA players take to the court this weekend trying to use mother nature to move up the ranking ladder with the qualifier in mind next summer! Taylor Ballard takes to the court against a top seed Saturday afternoon at 3 @ Hudlow TC. Tay’lor Champion & Sara Mathews are trying to improve on their rankings of about 190. Good luck to all the academy players as they battle freezing temps on Saturday morning! Stay tuned for updates!

DMTA Players fair Well!!

On a weekend with 4 DMTA players in 3 different tournaments, 2 different levels and 3 separate cities, the DMTA players for the most part unleashed their trait of aggressive, solid net rushing, pressure packed tennis to exit the weekend with a Champion & finalist trophy in the level 5 boys 16 singles at the Epicenter in Duluth, a consolation champion in the girls 12 singles at Lost Mtn in Powder Springs and another consolation champion in a level 4 in the girls 16 singles in the Dublin Chmps in Dexter, Ga!!
In the 2 level 5 tournaments Tay’lor and Sara started off well but both, while fighting hard, went down in the second round to solid players. They both rebounded in the consolation draw, finding what they do best and ran off 3 straight matches to win their draws!!
In the Epicenter level 5, boys 16 singles in Duluth, Matt Bullock and Ryan Cameron entered the tournament as the #1 and #2 seeds! This sometime has an adverse effect on some players, but not in the case as both players played solid tennis throughout the draw and Matt edged out Ryan 10-5 in the super breaker for the title!!
Congratulations to all the DMTA players that were in action this weekend!! They all should hydrate for at least 36 hours and ice down 3 times over the next 24 hours to help rehabilitation!!!
