Website Information updates!!!
Good morning all,
I’ve changed our website back to the site I’ve kept updating for years!! I’m also going to integrate pictures and video of as many players as possible, old and new!!! Please check back often as you might be surprised!!! The new site has been exploding over the last 2 days with 370 hits on Wednesday and about 400 hits on Thursday, both days probably from the addition of pictures added to the old timers page!!! It’s great to have FB updated each time I add to the site, I hope ya’ll enjoy!!
Until Next time,

FEEEEDDDDDEEEEERRRREEEERRRR!!
As I sit here after the semifinals of the year ending Masters Cup, or what ever the title is named. I now, even more than ever, am convinced that knowing ones limits, on and off the court is the biggest key to longevity in any profession! It’s awesome to watch Roger take off 6 weeks after the US OPEN and have everyone ask what is he doing, and now to see all the injuries and lack lustre performances should make us all give him a little more credit for knowing how to not worry about winning/entering all the ATP tournaments! Roger may not win the finals on Sunday but he’ll for sure be playing inspired and healthy tennis again!
This kind of knowing ones mind and body reminds me of the 2000 Ga Jr Qualifier Champion, that came to a complete understanding of his situation and decided to play about 3 tournaments in a row, but then would schedule the 4th week off totally! This would allow his body & mind to recuperate. He would still get in some off court workouts, but just enough to not loose what he had worked hard to aquire! So in closing, paying close attention to everything that makes a player play their best is a long process that is continually honed for years.. Even down to how long to take off!

Promoting Play II!
Well another tournament went by last week and it’s hard for me to believe that a player loves to play at one time and sit around for 5 hours or more for their next match!!! It happens in pretty much every tournament these days!!! I played in a state championship senior (35 & over) tournament a few years ago. The tournament ran from Saturday through Tuesday. I was seeded, so I got a bye on Saturday. My Quarter final match was scheduled for Sunday at 9 AM. I drove 1 hour and 15 minutes to the match, played for about 45 minutes including warm up. I stayed around on that side of town to see if the winner of the match I had to play next would like to take a break and play sometime within the next 2 hours. He didn’t so I drove over an hour back home. I drove back on Monday, played for another whopping 45 minutes including warm up and drove back home. Luckily I knew the winner of the other semi final match and we agreed to play at a neutral site about 15 minutes from our houses on Tuesday!!! I inquired to one of the participants, that was on the states tournament committee about why we were playing 1 round a day, and he said that a lot of players aren’t in good enough shape to play 2 matches a day!!! I expressed my sympathy that the governing body was running the “players” out of the game by stretching it out so someone that is in shape will drive 6 hours to play 2 hours of tennis!!! I told him that if he looked at the size of the draws on that day versus 10 years before, he would find that the draws of 10 years ago would have had double the entrants!!! I believe that as our country tries to get the out of shape people to play their running the in shape people out of the game!!! I feel that almost any “player” really wants to play their match, have about 1.5 – 2.5 hours of rest then play another match. If it’s in the consolation then of course you’d expect to play a third! My overall point is that with these “points” that the players are playing for, costing no less then $43, why can’t the tournament directors make a better effort to complete as much of the draw as possible? If you know of any players that have competed lately, comment as to whether the tournament finished? Don’t be surprised!!

Trial Workouts!!
Hello All,
Now that 99% of the students have completed the “waffle house” conferences, it is now the consensus that for the next 4 weeks I’ll be conducting an additional workout on Monday through Thursday( 4 days) from 3:30-4:20. Here are the rules:
1 Each student may come to workouts as many times as they wish. Drill sessions may not be switched from selected days.
2 Each student must be on time and warmed up by 3:30.There will be no warm-up period!
3 There will be no excuses/amendments to the workout!! People with slack efforts, excuses or complaints will be told to leave with no warning!!
4 Students need to bring possibly an additional pair of shoes/clothes for the workout.
5 Only paying students attending DMTA drills 2 or more days per week may attend, no exceptions!
6 Late students will not be allowed in the workout but may wait court side for drills.
Last, but not in the least this workout session is on a 4 week trial basis. After which I’ll see if attendance and attitude is worth my FREE TIME!! Those wishing to have a fun time or disrespect anyone in the workout should save themselves the embarrassment of showing up!!
Hope to see ya’ll soon,
Bigdog
